All 20 “Premier” League clubs discussed the process of reforming the international match calendar after 2024 and unanimously opposed FIFA’s proposal to hold men’s World Cups every two years, as well as any plans related to extended international windows. Clubs expressed concern about the negative impact of FIFA’s current proposals on the well-being of players and fans, preparation for the season, and the quality of competition. Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League, said: “The Premier League is committed to preventing any radical changes to the FIFA international match calendar after 2024 that would negatively affect the well-being of players and pose a threat to the country's football competitiveness, calendar, structures, and traditions.” “We are open to reforms and new ideas, but they must strengthen the additional balance of domestic and international football to improve the game at all levels,” said the head of the Premier League in a press release.
