On Sunday, three more matches of the 28th round were played in the English Premier League.
In a crucial battle for a spot in the European cup tournaments next season, Tottenham players secured a convincing victory at home against the fifth-placed Bolton team with a score of 4-1.
Both teams had chances to score early in the match, and the first goal came in the 11th minute - Paul Robinson passed the ball to Dimitar Berbatov, who found Robbie Keane in the penalty area, and Keane's powerful shot found the back of the net past Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Shortly after, the visitors had a chance to equalize, but Stelios Giannakopoulos failed to convert when he had an opportunity in the penalty area - receiving a header from the right wing, the Greek player's shot went straight to the goalkeeper.
In the 19th minute, Tottenham increased their lead - an active Jermaine Jenas capitalized on a shot blocked by Jaaskelainen from close range, putting Tottenham 2-0 up.
The home team continued their momentum and soon made it 3-0. Teemu Tainio played a one-two with Pascal Chimbonda and broke into the penalty area, passing the ball along the goal line. Keane was first to reach it, as he had been throughout the match, and effortlessly scored from a few meters away.
Just when it seemed that this goal would seal the match, Keane struck again twice for Tottenham. After a corner kick for Bolton and a header from Ivan Campo, Keane deflected the ball with his hand from the goal line, earning a penalty and resulting in referee Graham Poll sending Campo off the field.
Gary Speed easily converted the penalty, adding a goal for Bolton before halftime to make it 3-1.
In the second half, Tottenham decided that the best defense is a good offense. Berbatov was particularly active - his shot was initially saved by the goalkeeper before he failed to outsmart him in a one-on-one situation.
Despite having chances to narrow the lead, Bolton's efforts, including those of Nicolas Anelka, were in vain.
Ultimately, Aaron Lennon scored the fourth goal for Tottenham in the final minute, solidifying their well-deserved victory.
Following the match, Bolton remained in fifth place with 47 points, trailing Arsenal by two points and Liverpool by six points.
Tottenham, with 39 points, climbed to ninth place in the league table.
In another match, Blackburn defeated Portsmouth 3-0, further pushing Portsmouth towards the middle of the table.
The hosts took the lead in the 57th second when Shabani Nonda scored after an unsuccessful attempt by Sol Campbell to clear the ball.
After that start, the game slowed down, and Portsmouth hardly threatened. Blackburn doubled their lead when David James left the ball unattended for Nonda, who scored his second goal effortlessly.
Despite Portsmouth's efforts, Blackburn added a third goal through Stephen Warnock, extending their lead.
In the final match, Wigan secured a 1-0 victory at home against Newcastle, advancing to the UEFA Cup quarterfinals.
Ryan Taylor scored the only goal of the match in the 40th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Interestingly, Taylor previously had committed a foul in his penalty area, resulting in a penalty for Newcastle, but Nolberto Solano missed the opportunity to score.
