Exactly 40 years ago, a very rare event in the football world occurred - a brutal brawl between players of two famous teams. After the "Copa del Rey" final match at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium, players from "Barcelona" and Bilbao "Athletic" got into a fight.
A future conflict was brewing for many months - in 1983, Bilbao player Andoni Goikoetxea broke the jaw of Barcelona's forward Diego Maradona.
In 1984, both teams met in a match that was full of rough episodes and provocations. However, the referee did not dare to take strict measures and only showed 7 yellow cards, while "Athletic" players again targeted D. Maradona and tried to eliminate the sniper from the lineup.
After the match ended with Bilbao's 1-0 victory (Endika 14'), chaos erupted on the field - Maradona and his teammates who could not hold back started to attack triumphant opponents.
After calming down the Argentine and his team, the police escorted them off the field. Later, it was announced that the forward was suspended for three months, and the Catalans decided to sell the celebrity to the Italian "Napoli" club, where he later shone in bright colors.
