The German club awarded coach Ernst Middendorp on Tuesday for saving the team in the Bundesliga and offered him to extend the contract for another year, until 2009. In March, the 48-year-old strategist took over the position of head coach, who saved the club from relegation to a lower league, and his contract was valid until June 2008. After his arrival, "Arminia" won five out of the last nine matches and finished in 12th place in the league table. E. Middendorp coached the "Arminia" team in 1988-1990 and 1994-1998. In 2005, when the club celebrated its 100th anniversary, the coach was chosen as the coach of the century. His goal was to keep the team in the top German league for the fifth consecutive year - a record for a club from central Germany.
