Left-back Bolo Zenden seems to have recovered from a minor ankle injury and will be ready to step onto the field in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League final.
"It seems that everything will be fine. He has been training and I am almost certain that B. Zenden will be ready to play," said English club strategist Rafael Benitez.
In the second part of the season, the Dutchman became a solid starter, although he did not demonstrate particularly good athletic form.
If the 30-year-old footballer, whose contract expires this summer, does not recover in time, his place may be taken by the recently recovered from a serious injury and already successfully played a few matches in the English championship, Australian Harry Kewell, and by defender John Arne Riise, who can also move forward, in which case Alvaro Arbeloa would replace him in the depth of the field.
It is expected that R. Benitez will choose a cautious 4-5-1 tactic for the final match, lining up Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso in the midfield, Jermaine Pennant on the right, and Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy as the only attackers.
