The head coach of the England national team, Gareth Southgate, argued about certain players' invitations and non-invitations to the team:

"I believe that other players in this position have had better seasons than Marcus Rashford. That's all."

"It's hard for me not to include Jordan Henderson in the team, as he was an important player. The main criterion is the injury he suffered during the last 'three lions' camp. He missed five weeks of football and didn't have time to return to proper intensity."

"Luke Shaw really misses football. The fact is, he was our main choice in that position. I talked to him, but I have to say that it will be very difficult for him to make the final squad."

"I didn't speak to Ben White. As far as I know, he can't help us."
