The football club "Panevėžys" will continue their battles in the "TOPsport A lyga" league this weekend. The team from the capital of Aukštaitija will face "Kauno Žalgiris" for the second time this year in the 15th round.
The Žalgiris team has played one more game and ranks fifth with 19 points after 14 matches. Nerijus Mačiulis' team has won 6 games, drawn once, and lost 7 times.
The first meeting between the two teams was marked by Noel Mbo's goal and a 1-0 victory. In the previous round, "Kauno Žalgiris" lost 0-1 to "Žalgiris" from Vilnius, while "Panevėžys" suffered a defeat against "Hegelmann" from Kaunas district - 0-2.
Last week's match did not go well for goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas - he broke his little finger after a collision with an opponent. V. Černiauskas will be unavailable for some time, so Tomas Švedkauskas is ready to play the second official match with "Panevėžys" in the "TOPsport A lyga."
The player from Marijampolė shared his thoughts with fk-panevezys.lt website ahead of the upcoming match.
"The season of 'Kauno Žalgiris' is also very inconsistent, as many others, however, the team definitely has a lot of potential and plenty of room for improvement, and they have already shown that potential this season," said T. Švedkauskas.
"We understand the situation we are in, and it is not satisfying for us or the fans. We can only overcome it by overcoming ourselves and finding inner strength within each of us. At this moment, the focus should not be on tactical schemes, but we should seek strength within ourselves and fight with all our might, from the beginning to the end," T. Švedkauskas continued.
The 15th round match between "Panevėžys" and "Kauno Žalgiris" will take place on May 25, on Saturday. The match will start at 7 pm at the "Aukštaitija" stadium.
