Round 29: "Monaco" lost the leader position © EuroFootball.com

After the 29th round matches of the French championship played on Saturday, the former leaders lost their position at the top.

The former "Ligue 1" leaders played a draw with the club after conceding a goal in the last minute and dropped to the 2nd place in the tournament table. The Monégasques took the lead after 57 minutes with a penalty goal scored by Fernando Morientes, but could not maintain this advantage.

The footballers took advantage of the leaders' stumble, defeating the team 1-0 and rising to the 1st position. "Lyon" surged ahead after 25 minutes with a goal from Giovane Elber, and despite playing the last 10 minutes with one player less, they did not let the victory slip away.

Now "Lyon" and "Monaco" have the same number of points, but "Olympique" is in the lead due to a better ratio of scored and conceded goals.

The capital team also took advantage of "Monaco's" stumble. By defeating the team in 17th position with a score of 1-0, the "P.S.G." club collected 47 points and is just three points behind the two leading teams.

The team, which was in 5th position until now, suffered an unexpected failure, losing 1-0 to the outsider away. The only goal of the match was scored from the penalty spot at the beginning of the second half by Valéry Mezague. "Auxerre" could not even benefit from the fact that this player was sent off the field in the 65th minute for a second yellow card.

Tomorrow the last matches of the 29th round will be played. The clubs will meet. In case of a victory, the Marseille club would rise to the 5th position, pushing the "Auxerre" team down one step.
