The young goalkeeper of the Turkish national team, Volkan Demirel, has agreed to extend his contract with his club Fenerbahce in Istanbul for another three years. The goalkeeper's contract was supposed to expire this summer.
Demirel has been playing for Fenerbahce since 2002. He joined the club from the second division team "Kartalspor" and replaced the departing main goalkeeper of the Turkish national team, Rustu, in the team.
This season, Demirel, who has performed excellently, helped his team win the Turkish championship title and in April was called up for the first time to play for his national team against Belgium. Since then, Demirel has represented Turkey two more times.
"I want to play for Fenerbahce for a very long time and help the club achieve the position it deserves. Last year we promised to win the championship, and we kept that promise. Now we want to perform successfully in the Champions League and we will do everything to achieve that," said Demirel.
Club board member Ilhan Eksioglu believes in Demirel: "He is a player who will serve Fenerbahce club for many, many years."
