On Sunday, the Lisbon club won the Portuguese Cup for the fourteenth time in its history, beating "Belenenses" 1-0 in the final.
The first half of the match ended goalless. In the second half, at first, the striker Dady from "Belenenses" failed to take advantage of a great opportunity to put his team ahead as his shot hit the crossbar, and soon after, "Sporting" Brazilian Liedson missed a header on goal.
With three minutes left in the match, just when it seemed like extra time would be needed, Liedson scored the only goal of the match after a pass from Miguel Veloso from the left side.
"Sporting", finishing second in the national championship, will play in the UEFA Champions League group stage next season, while "Belenenses", finishing fifth, will play in the UEFA Europa League next season.
