The Portuguese national team defeated the Slovenian national team after a penalty shootout.

The true hero of the Portuguese team was goalkeeper Diogo Costa. In this penalty shootout, he saved three Slovenian shots.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper became the first player in the history of the European Championships in this position to withstand three penalties from the 11-meter mark.

Also, as the second extra time was coming to an end, D. Costa saved a shot from Benjamin Šeško. The Slovenian striker was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but this was not a problem for Diogo Costa as he saved his team from conceding a goal and a possible elimination in the quarterfinals.

Furthermore, Diogo Costa became the first goalkeeper in the history of the European Championships to play all 120 minutes, including the penalty shootout, and not concede a single goal throughout the entire match.
