The "Kauno Žalgiris" football club will continue the rest of the season without the most prolific player of the season, Filip Dangubičius. The attacking player is moving to the Sarajevo "Željezničar" team in Bosnia and Herzegovina's top league.
In the Croatian player's contract with the "Kauno Žalgiris" club, there was a stipulated amount that, if covered, would allow him to leave in the summer.
"I hadn’t planned to activate this contract clause, as I felt very good in Kaunas and enjoyed playing. For this reason, I turned down several other offers over the last month. However, the last offer was simply too good in every sense for me to decline. "Kauno Žalgiris" did everything to keep me, but they couldn’t match such an offer. That’s why I decided to leave,” the Croatian told Žalgiris.lt.
Having joined the green and whites after the season had already started, F. Dangubičius scored 10 goals in 24 matches in the "TOPsport A League", adding two more in the LFF Cup tournament.
"I will always be grateful to the club for the trust shown to me even when I wasn’t playing well at the start of the season. I hope that in recent times I have managed to repay that trust, and I believe that the team will achieve its set goals in the A league and the LFF Cup this year,” stated F. Dangubičius.
More details about the departure of one of the league's top scorers were revealed by the president of the "Kauno Žalgiris" football club, Mantas Kalnietis.
"We never doubted Filip's abilities, and his last stint was simply impressive. We knew that such a day could come, and we tried to keep him in Kaunas, but the offer he received in Bosnia was just too good,” said M. Kalnietis.
