In the first match of the European Championship in Group A against Russia, the hero Juan Carlos Valeron announced that he will not demand a place in the starting lineup in the match against Greece.
In Saturday's match against Russia, Valeron appeared as a substitute and scored the only goal of the match.
Such a great performance by the Spaniard sparked discussions on whether he should be allowed to play from the start in the match against Greece. The Spanish national team coach Inaki Saezas postponed this question for a later time.
Valeron himself does not publicly pressure Saezas to include him in the starting lineup in the duel with the Greeks: "I definitely want to help, but the coach has to decide what is best for the team. I want to play, whether it's starting or as a substitute."
“Every player is important and it doesn’t matter who plays in the starting lineup, as we all share one goal - victory,” said Valeron.
Saezas did not rule out the possibility that Valeron could start the match against Greece in the starting lineup, as it would bring the necessary attitude for the match.
“The championship will be long and I will certainly make a lot of changes,” Saezas said.
