The Lithuanian national football team will start its UEFA Nations League campaign at home with a match against Cyprus this Friday.
However, it is still unclear where our national team will play its home match in just two days.
According to the initial plan, the Lithuania vs. Cyprus match, as is customary, was supposed to take place at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas, but after the recent concerts of Ed Sheeran and Jessica Shy, there are many doubts about the condition of the pitch.
After the Ed Sheeran concert, questions arose about whether it would be possible to play football at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium on September 6, and this question became even more pressing after the concert of Jessica Shy on August 30, which attracted around 38 thousand spectators.
On Wednesday, a special film was removed from the stadium's pitch, which was supposed to help it recover faster. However, the sight that was revealed did not please either the stadium managers or the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), and now they are awaiting a reaction from UEFA.
In the photos taken by the portal "Kas vyksta Kaune," it is clearly visible that in certain areas of the stadium, there is practically no grass.
The LFF, together with UEFA, should make a decision today on whether to move the match to Marijampolė or Vilnius.
