Yesterday, an extraordinary match took place in the UEFA Nations League – the England national team defeated Ireland 2:0 away.
Before the match, foreign media highlighted not only the return of two former players from the Irish youth teams, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice, to a country they know well.
It was recalled that earlier, one of the leaders of Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham, could have played for the Irish national team.
The midfielder was born in England, but one of his grandmothers was Irish.
However, the athlete was never interested in such an opportunity. He only remembered this important fact when he transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid and the royal team asked him to obtain an Irish passport so they could register more non-EU players in their squad.
J. Bellingham promptly complied, and his request at the Irish passport office was granted.
