Old adversaries Germany and the Netherlands will meet tonight in the city of Porto in the first match of Group D.

These teams meet for the third time in the history of the European Championships. So far, they have each won one match.

In previous meetings, the advantage was on the side of the Dutch. They won the last two matches and this is already the third meeting in which the Dutch do not lose to their opponents from Germany.

Both teams will play with one true striker. In the Dutch national team, it will be Ruud van Nistelrooy, and in the German eleven, Kevin Kuranyi.

Michael Ballack will play in the attacking midfielder position and will try to create opportunities for the German national team's striker. German national team coach Rudi Voller cannot complain that his team is plagued by injuries. All key players will be able to play today.

Meanwhile, the Dutch national team will be without Clarence Seedorf, who suffered an injury in a friendly match against the Irish national team.

The German national team are the champions of the European Championship held in 1996.
