Review of the Rome Derby © EuroFootball.com

Today in the evening one of the most interesting, anticipated, and intriguing matches in the Italian championship will take place. The eternal city derby will see AS Roma and SS Lazio face off.

The history of these derbies favors "Roma", who last lost four years ago (on March 25, 2000). But history means little when the players step onto the field, as they always fight with all their might.

For both teams, unlike last year, this match will be important in terms of the tournament table. Lazio is currently fighting for the 4th place, which almost guarantees a spot in the next season's Champions League. Meanwhile, Roma is still trying to chase the elusive championship title, but the league leaders are already 10 points ahead. So Lazio could further complicate their city rivals' chances.

The form of both teams has slightly differed recently: Lazio last minute won against Napoli in the league, and defeated Milan 2-0 in the Italian Cup, while Roma lost the first leg of the UEFA Cup 2-0 to Dynamo Kyiv, and in the league failed to beat the underdogs Chievo.

Both team's coaches have almost a full selection of players: Lazio only misses defender Juan, while Roma misses young Daniel De Rossi, and the suspended Jonathan Zebina.

As always, there were various comments exchanged on the eve of the derby. "Roma" captain Francesco Totti unexpectedly stated that this could be his last derby, as he wouldn't want to stay at the club if the team weakens in the mid-season. "Lazio" coach Roberto Mancini openly spoke - he denied that he would move to Milan after the season and hopes to stay at his club for another four years as his contract requires.

Fabio Capello hinted that he will play with a 4-4-2 tactic, while his opponent Roberto Mancini is expected to play with the usual 4-3-3 tactic for the team in recent times.

The match kicks off today at 21:30 Lithuanian time, with referee Rosetti from Turin.
