What does Lithuania need to avoid falling out of the C division of the Nations League? © lff.lt

In the next two days, it will be decided whether the Lithuanian national team will drop to the very bottom tier of the Nations League – Division D.

On Monday at 21:45, the Lithuanian national team will face Kosovo, which already knows it will finish in second place in the group.

Edgaras Jankauskas's pupils understand that they will finish in last place, but the points are very important. Right now, it is crucial to try to remain among the two strongest teams that took fourth place in their groups in Division C.

Latvia, which finished last in Group 4, has 4 points, so they won't succeed.

Another important competitor for Lithuania is Luxembourg, which has 2 points and a -4 goal difference (goals conceded/goals scored).

Therefore, to surpass Luxembourg, Lithuania needs to secure a victory against Kosovo and hope for Luxembourg's defeat. If this team draws, then Lithuania will need to win against Kosovo by a margin of two goals.

Luxembourg will play at home against Northern Ireland.

Another remaining competitor in this scenario is Azerbaijan, which has 1 point in Group 1 of Division C, and in their last match, they will face an away game in Sweden. If Lithuania celebrates a victory against Kosovo, only an unexpected victory for Azerbaijan could complicate things.

If Lithuania fails to secure a victory in Kosovo, then there will be no chance of remaining in Division C, and in the next Nations League season, they will face opponents such as Andorra, Malta/Moldova, Liechtenstein/San Marino, and, realistically, the same Azerbaijan.
