"Ipswich Town” team explained why its captain Sam Morsy refused to wear a rainbow armband in the match against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The Premier League announced that November 29 – December 5 is designated for LGBTQ+ support, and team captains are required to express their support for "Stonewall’s 2024 Rainbow Laces” campaign.

However, the only representative of the Ipswich Town team was without an armband in last weekend’s match.

According to the club, the main reason for this is religious. The player is a Muslim.

"Ipswich Town” supports the Premier League initiative and stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

At the same time, the team respects captain Sam Morsy’s decision to decline the rainbow armband for religious reasons,” the team wrote.
