Dovydas Lastauskas, who has been training the Marijampolė "Sūduva" team for the past two years, has been appointed as the club's director. In this position, he replaces Andrius Murauskas, who has led the club for the past 4 years.
"Sūduva" president Vidmantas Murauskas thanked his son for his work and wished success to the new director.
"Andrius helped for a long time at my request, I am very grateful to him, but it is time to step back into business," said the president of "Sūduva." "D. Lastauskas received an offer and accepted it. Dovydas is a true Marijampolietis, and 'Sūduva' is an important part of his life, so all that's left is to wish him success in this new area."
30-year-old D. Lastauskas is a former goalkeeper for "Sūduva," and for the last two seasons, he has been training the team. Next season, D. Lastauskas will step back from coaching and focus on the club's administration work.
"To me, 'Sūduva' means much more than just a football team. I am very grateful to V. Murauskas primarily for giving me the opportunity to train the team two years ago. The suggestion to become the club’s director was very unexpected; I spent a lot of time considering what I could give to the club, and whether I am suitable for such a position at all. After several very long conversations with V. Murauskas, I decided to take on this responsible task," said the new director of "Sūduva."
"I know that a harder time awaits than being the head coach, even though the last season was extremely difficult for me. We are actively looking for a new head coach, and I hope to introduce him as soon as possible. Then, the team formation will intensify; we already have friendly matches planned. There is also a lot of activity outside of the sports aspect, with the first task being to launch the sale of next season's subscriptions before Christmas. There are many thoughts and tasks; I hope that together with the wonderful 'Sūduva' community, we will develop the club and create a football celebration in the stadium together every week."
