On Friday, the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches took place in Switzerland, where the Lithuanian national team also found out their opponents.
The Lithuanians have been placed in Group G, where they will face teams from Spain or the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, and Malta.
Prior to the draw ceremony, a special condition was set for our national team.
As reported by the BBC, for Edgaras Jankauskas' team, as well as for Estonia, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, and Norway, significant weather conditions became relevant.
FIFA established a limit, allowing a maximum of two countries known for their harsh climates to be in one qualifying group.
