UEFA plans to kill two birds with one stone.

As reported by "The Telegraph," the European football organization is seriously considering eliminating additional playing time in the Champions League tournament in the near future, at the latest from 2027 onwards. This would apply to both qualifying and knockout matchups.

It is thought that this could not only eliminate the boring extra time but also prevent players from overexertion.

If the score is tied at the end of regulation time, teams would participate in a series of penalty kicks.

The year 2027 is chosen as the last possible deadline because that is when the main contracts with television networks will expire.
