Vilnius 'Žalgiris' crushed Marijampolė's 'Sūduva' club at home

In the 7th round of the "TOPsport" A league, the reigning champions of the country, Vilnius "Žalgiris," who are currently struggling, faced the pleasantly surprising Marijampolė "Sūduva." The home team played confidently and secured victory with a score of 3:0 (1:0).

In the opening moments, Motiejus Burba, who played for "Sūduva" last year, tried to catch the opponents off guard with a long shot, but missed the target.

The first threat to the "Žalgiris" goal arose in the 17th minute when Nojus Lukšys broke free from the defenders and passed to Darius Stankevičius, but he shot wide. A few minutes later, Sūduva’s Sidy Sanokho also hit the goal area, but the ball was caught by the goalkeeper.

The 25th minute was marked by an acrobatic shot from Henriques Devenso, but the ball went straight to Ignas Plūkas, and just a minute later, M. Burba, receiving the ball in the penalty area, did not miss and put his team ahead.

At the end of the first half, Ovidijus Verbickas was close to doubling the lead, but his shot was blocked by Sūduva defender Žygimantas Baltrūnas, and a bit later, Nauris Petkevičius failed to connect with the ball successfully.

From the very start of the second half, the Marijampolė team played more actively, but they often lacked accuracy in the final phase of their attacks.

The "Žalgiris" players struck a blow to "Sūduva's" ambitions in the 71st minute when Ignas Plūkas defended against the first attempt of the home team, but with the second shot, H. Devensas did not miss and solidified the team's lead. At the end of the match, the Brazilian added another precise shot.

With this victory, the Vilnius "Žalgiris" players have 12 points and are very close to "Sūduva," who have one point more.
