A scandal has shaken Spanish football.
Before tomorrow's King's Cup final in Seville, the Madrid "Real" team stepped into the spotlight, demanding the immediate replacement of the referee for the upcoming match, Ricardo De Burgos.
The royal team's anger was provoked by the referee's comments during a press conference held today.
The referee expressed disappointment about a report prepared by "Real" TV, which portrayed him as an dishonest character. According to R. De Burgos, such actions from the Madrid team made his son cry after being teased at school for supposedly being the offspring of a fraudster.
Upon hearing such comments from the referee, "Real" issued a stern statement – the team refused to participate in the press conference, as well as in the events leading up to the match, including training and even a photoshoot.
"Real" attempted to convince the federation to replace R. De Burgos, but received a negative response. It is still unclear whether the club will take to the pitch for tomorrow's meeting against "Barcelona."
This is not the first high-profile "Real" boycott this season – at the end of last year, the Spaniards ignored the "Golden Ball" award ceremony because their forward Vinicius did not receive the prize.
