After a two-year break, the club will once again play in the highest Italian championship. It was revealed yesterday, after the second leg of the playoff match, in which the Florence club won 2-1 with a combined score.

The first match, held at "Perugia" home stadium, ended with a score of 0-1, so in order to secure the historic comeback, "Fiorentina" only needed to maintain the lead at home. The legendary team player Gabriel Batistuta was also noticed at the violet-colored "Artemio Franchi" stadium.

Once again, "Fiorentina" could not count on their main strikers - Christian Rigano did not recover from injury, and Zisis Vryzas represented the Greek national team in the European Championship. However, just like in the first match, Enrico Fantini stood out - in the beginning of the second half, he headed the ball into the goal after a pass from Christian Maggio. Ten minutes later, the same Fantini received a second yellow card and was sent off the field. As the match approached the end, Do Prado equalized the score, but the match ended there, so "Perugia" will play in a lower division next season.

Together with "Fiorentina", "Palermo", "Cagliari", Tomo Danilevičius' "Livorno", "Messina", and "Atalanta" clubs entered the expanded 20-team "Serie A" from "Serie B".
