The young club striker Shola Ameobi has signed a new 5-year contract with his current club. Born in Nigeria but holding British citizenship, the player will stay at the club until the end of the 2008-2009 season. This season, he replaced the injured team striker Craig Bellamy excellently and earned a place in the starting eleven of Newcastle.
"It was great to play a lot this season and I hope to play even more next season," said Ameobi. "This is an important moment for me and my family."
The 22-year-old striker scored 10 goals for the club this season in 41 appearances in various tournaments. He became the second top scorer of the club after the tireless veteran Alan Shearer.
