England national team and club forward Wayne Rooney broke his foot in yesterday's dramatic Euro-2004 quarterfinal match against Portugal.
The 18-year-old forward was injured in the first half by Portuguese player Jorge Andrade. Rooney initially tried to continue playing, but coach Sven Goran Eriksson had to substitute him.
According to doctors, Rooney will be out for about a month, which means he should recover in time for the start of the new Premier League season. The season in England begins in August.
