The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided that it would be better if head coach Inaki Saez resigns from his position after the unsuccessful performance in this year's European Championship. The Spanish media put significant pressure on the coach and the federation, which is considered the main reason for his resignation.
Saez stated that it was his decision, but couldn't say anything more. The Spaniards started the championship successfully by defeating the Russians. Later, they drew with the Greeks and suffered a crucial loss to the tournament hosts, the Portuguese, which closed the path to the quarterfinals for Spain.
The most realistic contenders to take Saez's place are coach Luis Aragones and strategist Vincente Del Bosque.
Inaki Saez is the third coach after Otto Baric and Rudi Völler to resign after an unsuccessful performance in Euro 2004.
