Today in Klaipeda there were second leg UEFA Intertoto Cup matches, in which the local team "Atlantas" faced Moscow's "Spartak". The home team won by a minimal result, but that was not enough, as in the first leg match in Moscow, the Klaipeda team had lost by a two goal difference. In the next stage, "Spartak" will meet the Croatian team "Kamen-Ingrad".

Prior to the match, there were several incidents near Klaipeda's "Žalgiris" stadium. Lithuanian hooligans attacked the bus of "Spartak" fans, which led to clashes, requiring police intervention and tear gas. Despite the disturbances, the match started on time.
At the beginning, the hosts had the initiative, and in the 11th minute, a shot by Karalius went wide. The game then balanced out, with only occasionally causing problems for the "Atlantas" goal, by Russian forward Pogrebniak, but his attempts from distance were inaccurate. Karalius was more active for the Klaipeda team, but his shots were successfully defended by goalkeeper Kowalevskis. At the end of the first half, there was another incident - a Russian fan ran onto the field, causing the referee to temporarily stop the match due to unrest.
After the break, the match officials from Serbia and Montenegro began to heat up the passions, as they made a couple of contentious decisions, causing dissatisfaction in the stadium. The teams struggled to create more dangerous chances for a while. In the 70th minute, the guests mounted a counterattack, and "Atlantas" defenders were unable to return in time, but Pogrebniak's shot was unsuccessful. Time passed, and the Klaipeda team began to press their opponents, trying to score the first goal. With about 15 minutes left, Sernius headed the ball without obstruction, but the goalkeeper played it perfectly. In the 79th minute, "Spartak's" legionnaire from Romania, Tamash, made a mistake, Ivaniskevicius passed the ball to Navickas, who shot from 20 meters to put his team ahead. Shortly after, Kowalevskis pushed Puotkalis' shot from afar. The hosts tried to equalize the aggregate score, while the guests retreated into defense. Nevertheless, the match ended this way - despite the revenge, "Atlantas" concluded their appearance in the Intertoto Cup.
