The head coach of Mallorca, Luis Aragonesas, is ready to become the head coach of the Spanish national football team after the management of Mallorca allowed the coach to leave the club.
Mallorca released Aragonesas, who turned 66 today, from the remaining contract, thus giving the Spaniard the opportunity to start negotiations with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Aragonesas is one of the favorites to take the position of head coach, which became vacant last week after Inaki Saez resigned.
It is believed that Aragonesas' appointment to this position is just a formality, as the coach has never hidden his desire to take on these responsibilities. It is expected that the coach will be offered a two-year contract, which would end after the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The coach's debut match would be the friendly match against Venezuela in August. Later, Spain will start the World Cup qualifying group, which will also include Lithuania in the matches.
If Aragonesas becomes the coach of Spain, the vacant head coach position at Mallorca would most likely be filled by Jose Manuel Esnal, the coach of Alaves.
