The president of this season's UEFA Champions League finalist club, Pierre Svara, announced that he is stepping down from his position.
Svara took over the reins of "Monaco" a year ago when the club was on the brink of bankruptcy - with over 50 million euros in debts and being relegated to the second French football division, only to be reinstated in "Ligue 1" after an appeal.
Despite these difficulties, Svara's club, led by Didier Deschamps, not only managed to overcome the financial crisis but also demonstrated excellent football - finishing in 3rd place in "Ligue 1" and reaching the UEFA Champions League final where they were defeated.
So now Pierre Svara believes he has completed his mission and it is time to step down. The new president of "Monaco" is Michel Pastor, the leader of the consortium that acquired the club.
"3rd place in "Ligue 1", UEFA Champions League final, current financial situation, and the display of excellent football - these are all reasons to expect a lot from the "Monaco" club in the upcoming season," said Svara. "My mission here is finished."
The new club president hopes to replicate the club's success next season, but the most important thing he has to do is to find additional funds to avoid another financial crisis.
