The Lithuanian national team, preparing for the World Cup qualifying tournament, will play a friendly match with the neighboring Russian team. This news was announced today by the Lithuanian Football Federation. The meeting is scheduled to take place on August 18 in Moscow.

Lithuania will play in the seventh group of the World Cup qualification tournament in the European zone, along with Spain, Belgium, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and San Marino. The Lithuanians will play their first match on September 4th in Belgium.

Russia finished last in Group A in Euro 2004, missing out on future finalists Portugal and Greece, as well as Spain. In the World Cup qualifiers, Russia has been placed in Group 3 with Portugal, Slovakia, Latvia, Estonia, Liechtenstein, and Luxembourg.

The youth national teams of Lithuania and Germany (U-21) have also agreed to play friendly matches. This match will take place in Hamburg on August 18th.
