The Dutch Football Association announced the resignation of national team coach Dick Advocaat. The former strategist led the team to the Euro2004 semi-finals, but received heavy criticism from fans and the press.
It is believed that Advocaat decided to step down before the World Cup qualifiers because he did not feel support from his country. Last week he stated that he had already made up his mind about his future.
Advocaat's assistant Willem van Hanegem also followed in his colleague's footsteps and resigned as well.
