After the resignation of Plamen Markov from the position of head coach of the Bulgarian national football team, the most likely candidate for this position is named as the most famous Bulgarian football player of all time, Hristo Stoichkov.

According to the Bulgarian radio station "Sport," Stoichkov, who played for the team in his time, has already given his principled consent, but only on the condition that Dimitar Penev is also included in the coaching staff.

Stoichkov's candidacy became the most likely after Krasimir Balakov, who took over the national team, refused to continue as head coach and announced that he will continue his coaching career in a German football club. The name of the new Bulgarian national team coach will be officially announced after a meeting of the executive committee of the Bulgarian Football Union on July 15.
