English club "Tottenham Hotspur" sold forward Helder Postiga to his former club, the Champions League winner, and acquired midfielder Pedro Mendes. The Portuguese team will also pay the English 3 million pounds.

The 21-year-old Postiga moved from "Porto" to "Spurs" for 6.25 million pounds. However, the player failed to adapt in England during the season - he managed to score only twice in 22 matches. A goal in the Euro 2004 quarterfinal against England improved his reputation in the country, so the club decided to bring him back.

"There is no doubt about Helder's abilities, but he probably arrived in the Premier League too early. He wanted to go back home, and although we value him highly, we don't want to make him unhappy. He has always been a true professional, and we wish him all the best in the future," said Spurs sporting director Frank Arnesen. "This is a great deal because Pedro will give us more options in the defensive line and bring European tournament experience with him. He has earned a good reputation on the continent and we are delighted to have him join our team."

The English club also announced the acquisition of another defender, Sean Davis, from . Many Premier League clubs were interested in the 24-year-old Davis, but "Spurs" won the battle for the player and after a medical examination, he should sign a contract with the new club.
