"The Spanish superclub has reached an agreement with Celta de Vigo, a team relegated from the Spanish top flight, for the defender Silvinho. In the battle for this former Arsenal player from London, the Catalan club defeated Sevilla.
This Brazilian national team member has been looking for a new club since Celta officially dropped out of the top league and for a long time the favorite to acquire this left-back defender was Betis. However, Barcelona unexpectedly joined the fight and quickly won it.
"We have reached an agreement with Celta to buy Silvinho," said Barcelona's sports director Txiki Begiristain. "Of course, we still have to agree with the player, but something might happen this weekend."
It is believed that Barcelona will pay 2 million euros (around 7 million litas) for the thirty-year-old player, but the transfer will not happen until Silvinho completes the paperwork to obtain Spanish citizenship.
If the transfer goes through, Silvinho will be Barcelona's fifth purchase this summer. They have already bought the Portuguese national team member Deco, the Swedish national team star Henrik Larsson, the Brazilian national team right-back Juliano Belletti, and the Monaco star Ludovic Giuly."
