Legendary club and Netherlands national team striker Marco van Basten has announced that he is ready to become the head coach of his country's national team, if he receives an offer from the federation.
According to some reports, van Basten's candidacy is already actively supported by another Dutch football legend - Johan Cruyff. The former coach recommended another former player of this club, John van 't Schip, for the position of assistant coach. The news was reported by the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
"It is a great honor for me," noted 39-year-old van Basten, who had to end his sports career a few years ago due to numerous injuries. "If I receive an offer, I will not say 'no'."
Currently, van Basten works at the club's youth football training center. This is where he started his player career.
