The team captain Alan Shearer warned the club that he will leave the team if he is not guaranteed a place in the starting lineup this season.
Shearer, who has been the main symbol of the "Magpies" club for many years, expressed concern about his last season of his career. Manager Bobby Robson's team is looking to sign contracts with "Barcelona" forward Patrick Kluivert and James Beattie from "Southampton". Shearer firmly stated that he will definitely not be a second striker in the team, let alone sit on the bench, as "Newcastle Utd" has another capable striker - Welshman Craig Bellamy.
"If the club officials tell me that I won't play in the starting lineup, then I have to think everything over well, because I want to play as much as I can in my last season. I think my legs will last for another year," Shearer said.
"I was pleased to score 20 goals last season, and I hope to play just as well this year, or maybe even better," continued the "Newcastle United" striker.
