According to the Spanish media, Carles Puyol, the defender of the Catalan superclub and the Spanish national team, has ended negotiations with the club regarding a salary reduction and it is believed that he may be ready to leave Barcelona.

The Spanish sports newspaper "AS" writes that Puyol is very unhappy with the club president Joan Laporta's desire to reduce his salary and has informed the club that it would be better to sell him if they want to reduce the club's debts in this way.

It is believed that Puyol's contract, which was actively sought after by clubs like Manchester and London, signed with the former president Joan Gaspart, amounts to about 5 million euros per year.

Laporta did not hide that his main goal is to "slash" the salaries of the highest earners at the club in order to reduce the club's debts.

Some players, like Gerard, have agreed to reduce their salary, while others, like Saviola, have refused and are now being sold. There is talk that Puyol, who is considered one of the symbols of the club, may face the same fate.

Puyol, who was born and raised in Catalonia, has expressed his desire to stay at Barcelona on several occasions, but added that he would not hesitate to leave if it benefits the club.

Puyol will most likely stay at Barcelona, but it is possible that Barcelona would be tempted to sell this Spanish national team defender - causing a huge impact among the club's fans - for around 20 million euros because the club has been unable to reach an agreement with the player regarding a reduced salary.
