Former goalkeeper of the Lithuanian national team and "Žalgiris" Valdemaras Martinkėnas, who is now one of the coaches at "Flora", passed away in Slovenia, while the "Flora" club was preparing for Champions League match against the local club NK "Gorica". The 39-year-old Martinkėnas drowned in a mountain river on Tuesday morning, when he was caught in the water currents.

As a player, Martinkėnas has played for clubs in Lithuania, Estonia, Switzerland, Finland, and Russia. He represented Kyiv's "Dynamo" twice and was called up for the Lithuanian national team nineteen times.
