In the German league cup final held in Mainz today, the two strongest teams in the country met - last season's "double" winners Bremen's "Werder" and Munich's "Bayern", who finished second in the Bundesliga. After a fierce battle, the victory was celebrated by the Bavarian team.
In the semi-finals, "Bayern" had crushed Leverkusen's "Bayer" club, while the German champion "Werder" defeated the "Stuttgart" team.

In the 27th minute, defender Deisler scored the first goal with a penalty kick. He missed a large part of last season due to treatment for depression. The same Deisler doubled the score with a shot from 20 meters at the end of the first half.
After 20 minutes in the second half, Ballack scored, and it seemed that the winner of the match was clear. However, "Werder" did not give up, and soon Klasnic narrowed the gap, while Ismael brought the intrigue back with a precise penalty kick from 11 meters.
Nevertheless, the result did not change until the end of the match, so "Bayern" won their first trophy under coach Felix Magath. The winners received 1.3 million euros, while the losing club settled for 900 thousand.
