Spanish champion and member of the Spanish youth national team (up to 19 years old) Raul Albiol has been involved in an accident and is believed to be seriously injured.
The accident occurred while the European champion was traveling by car with his father and agent to Madrid, where they were planning to finalize negotiations for the player's loan to "Getafe" club for one season.
So far, the circumstances of the incident are unknown, but it is believed that Albiol was sitting in the back seat of a BMW and was not wearing a seatbelt. Although some sources claim that the seatbelt was unbuckled by itself, officially it is stated that the player was airlifted to the hospital at 19:20 local time unconscious.
Hospital representatives state that the 18-year-old Spaniard regained consciousness, but after some tests it was revealed that Albiol suffered a brain injury. The player underwent surgery to stop internal bleeding.
During the accident, Albiol's father suffered minor injuries. The player's agent was also slightly injured.
