After the purchase of Englishman Michael Owen, Real Madrid is preparing to buy a defender who would form a tandem with Walter Samuel in the center of defense. The Royal club is interested in two footballers - Fabricio Coloccini and Fabio Cannavaro.
"Real" coach Jose Antonio Camacho met with club president Florentino Perez last weekend and discussed the possibility of the Italian joining the Spanish giants. According to "Real" representatives, Perez agreed that the defense needs strengthening and negotiations for Cannavaro should start soon.
If "Real" fails to buy the Italian, then there will likely be almost no problem with Coloccini's transfer, as they have already announced that they can sell the Argentine for 3.5 million euros.
After unsuccessful negotiations with Patrick Vieira, "Real" has started negotiations with "River Plate" for the 20-year-old defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano.
The capital team claims to be willing to pay 8 million euros for this Argentine U-20 national team player.
