The Vilnius "Vėtra" football club today announced the termination of the contract with the head coach Valdas Ivanauskas.
V.Ivanauskas and the Vilnius club parted ways by mutual agreement, and the main reasons for this decision are family circumstances and the fact that he is too busy with work in the national team, where he is preparing the team for the 2006 World Cup qualifying cycle as an assistant coach.
Just a few years ago, V.Ivanauskas, who ended his professional football career in Germany, completed coaching courses and began working with the national team last year, and at the end of the Lithuanian championship was a consultant for the "Vėtra" team.
The club leaders were pleased with V.Ivanauskas' work, and he took over the head coach duties from Valdas Urbonas, who temporarily replaced the dismissed Vytautas Jančiauskas. This year, "Vėtra" reached the third round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup, and currently holds the fifth position in the "A Lyga".
Now the interim head coach is Sigitas Aliubavičius, the assistant coach of the reserves team. He will start his work tomorrow when they play at home against the next team from the capital, "Žalgiris".
