As expected yesterday, Jonathan Woodgate, a player for the English national team, passed a medical examination this morning in Madrid and signed a four-year contract, which will earn him approximately 120,000 euros per week.

The club will receive 20 million euros (13.4 million pounds) for J. Woodgate. This is already the third purchase of the royal Spanish club this summer - recently, the Englishman Michael Owen was acquired, and earlier, the Argentine Walter Samuel.

J. Woodgate moved to Newcastle in January 2003, but played only 37 matches in 18 months due to constant injuries. If he manages to solve this problem, the Englishman should form a pair with W. Samuel in the middle of the Real defense.
