The striker of the French champion, Giovane Elber, will most likely not be able to play for at least four months, as he broke his leg during the Sunday match of the French championship.
32-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury in the 62nd minute of the second half when he landed unsuccessfully after an attempt to shoot at the goal. On Tuesday, the player will undergo surgery.
"To determine the severity of the injury, Giovane underwent a magnetic resonance imaging today. The ligament is not damaged; the lateral right ankle ligament and the shin bone are fractured. Giovane will need a rehabilitation period of six to eight weeks, and then he will be able to train again. Currently, we expect his return in January," said Lyon's chief physician Jean-Jacques Amprin.
