Camacho is targeting van Bommel © EuroFootball.com

Reports have appeared in the Spanish press that Jose Antonio Camacho, the head coach of the country's super club Real Madrid, is trying to convince club president Florentino Perez to acquire Dutch national team defensive midfielder Mark van Bommel.

Having failed to acquire either Patrick Vieira or Xabier Alonso, Camacho has set his sights on van Bommel representing Eindhoven, but Perez previously mentioned that the club will not buy anyone else this summer.

It is said that by acquiring Michael Owen and Jonathan Woodgate, the Real leaders believe they have strengthened the weakest player positions, but Camacho really wants to have a powerful defensive midfielder in the team who would disrupt opponent attacks right from the start.

Not long ago, van Bommel rejected offers from Real and another Spanish super club, Barcelona, to play in Spain. The last club to hear the Dutchman's negative response is Everton from Liverpool. Earlier, he was actively pursued by Tottenham, Schalke from Gelsenkirchen, and Borussia Dortmund from Dortmund.

Van Bommel has undoubtedly been one of the leaders of PSV for several recent seasons and has attracted considerable interest from various Italian, Spanish, and English clubs. The player himself stated earlier that he wants to play in the English Premier League.
