The visitors started the match more actively. A few minutes into the game, Milan Baros missed a shot from a comfortable position. In the 14th minute, "Liverpool" coach Rafael Benitez had to make a forced substitution. S.Hyypia took an elbow to the face from one of the opponents and could no longer continue the match, so Djimi Traore came on the field in his place.
In the 18th minute, D.Hamann's shot narrowly missed the goal. Later, both teams exchanged a few dangerous opportunities, and in the 38th minute, the hosts broke through. H.Pedersen broke through the edge and passed the ball to K.Davis, who sent it into the net from a few meters away. The teams went to rest with the hosts leading 1-0.
Just at the beginning of the second half, the same K.Davis could have doubled the score with a shot from 25 meters, but the goalkeeper J.Dudek managed to deflect the ball. The hosts continued to attack. In the 58th minute, after a header by R.Jaidi, the visitors were once again saved by the goalkeeper.
In the second half, the hosts had territorial advantage, which didn't allow the visitors to equalize the score. However, the new "Liverpool" defender L.Garcia had a few chances, but his shots were off target. Perhaps the most real chance to equalize came in the 87th minute with D.Cisse, but his shot from a sharp angle flew past the goal.
After this victory, "Bolton" rose to third place in the league table, while "Liverpool" dropped to eleventh place.
