On Wednesday, the first two semi-final matches of the LFF Cup tournament were played - victories by scoring penalty kicks with a minimal difference were achieved by FBK "Kaunas" and Vilnius "Žalgiris" playing at home.

Last season's cup winner "Žalgiris" advanced in the match against "Atlantas" at the Vėtra stadium when Vaidas Kaušpadas scored a penalty kick in the fourth minute. Although Robertas Ringys from Klaipėda also had the opportunity to score a penalty and equalize the result in 12 minutes, he failed to do so.

Meanwhile, Coach Valdas Ivanauskas, who recently left "Vėtra" and moved to Kaunas, met his former club and defeated it, with Andrius Velička scoring the winning goal for the country's champions from the penalty spot.

This was the third goal in a row for this forward, as he also scored twice last weekend in the "A-League" matches. A. Velička seems to have regained the form with which he became the top scorer of the championship in 2002.

The second leg of the semi-finals will be played in two weeks - on September 29th, starting at 4:00 PM. The winners of the matches will have the opportunity to compete in the final for the LFF Cup, which provides a ticket to the next season's UEFA Cup tournament.
