In the Russian "Premier" league, the 24th round matches were played over the weekend, two of which ended with quite unexpected losses for the championship leaders, allowing their lower positioned rivals to get closer.
The absolute leader, St. Petersburg's "Zenit," lost away to Yaroslavl's "Shinnik," while in the Moscow derby, "Lokomotiv" defeated "CSKA" and reduced the gap between them to just one point.
In fourth place remains Samara's "Krylja Sovetov" club, adding to their points tally after a victory against Moscow's "Torpedo," who dropped to sixth place after the loss.
Another victory was achieved by Moscow's "Spartak," who climbed to seventh place after overcoming Perm's "Amkar" with two penalty kicks. Their city neighbor, "Moskva," is tied on points with "Spartak" after playing for the second time in a row in a draw.
